Oukitel WP8 Pro First Review

Now, in the rugged smartphone market, competition at the entry-level is heating up. Oukitel is flexing its muscles by introducing one of the best smartphones, the WP8 Pro. This device is one of a kind, and after reading this review, you will understand why we think so;

Oukitel WP8 Pro

The first thing that you realize is that it is thin where it is relative to its surface area. Oukitel WP8pro is a rugged smartphone that is in a category of mobile devices called waterproof or unbreakable and shockproof. The military standard of protection is MIL-STD-810G and the standard protection of the new Oukitel smartphone is IP69, and IP8. With all this description, it shows that the phone is not afraid of shock, water, or dirt. This device has a rubber coating and metal inserts on the right and left sides. And at the back, it has a flashlight, a camera, and a speaker and at the front, there is a display with a water drop notch. For a rugged phone, it is surprisingly slender at 12.0mm with dimensions of 178 x 84.7mm.

There is the trio of core components: 4GB of LPDDR4x memory, an eight-core Mediatek Helio P22 processor and 64GB onboard storage. It has NFC, FM radio, Bluetooth 4.2, 5Ah battery {with OTG capabilities}, and Wi-Fi 5.

Now, being a mediatek-powered rugged smartphone, it has an array of features like the toolbox that contains free virtual tools for DIY fans and professional handymen. Moreover, the phone has a useful kid mode and a game one, and both are in their target use cases. It also comes with an app clone that allows you to clone an application. Yes, this app might be a little bit complex, but it for sure a lifesaver.

It has an in-built battery of 5000mAh, which it is pretty good for the regular smartphone but for rugged phones, it usually has bigger batteries. Let’s see an example; Oukitel WP6 came with a 10000mAh battery while Oukitel WP7 has a capacity of 8000mAh.

The device has a lot but its USP will be its screen size. Though it is not as big as the 6.49nch display, the 6.88-inch of the Black view BV6100 to make the device more durable and a potential candidate that can overtake tablets that can be handled by field operators.

The oukitel WP8 Pro is a great device in case you are looking for a rugged phablet. With our expectations, it performs with par but the presence of the microUSB port, it is below average but there are other alternatives if the size doesn’t matter.

  1. The first obvious competitor is the X8 which we reviewed very recently. It is smaller, about the same price and shares the same core hardware. Overall, the Ulefone rival wins some (Type-C, better Bluetooth, higher battery capacity) and loses some (lower resolution, lower resolution camera). The second less obvious one is the WP5 Pro, another Oukitel model that has almost exactly the same specification bar the lack of NFC, the smaller screen size, lower resolution camera sensors and a much bigger battery at 8Ah. It costs almost the same as well.
