The Ulefone Armor 9 Smartphone Review

The Ulefone Armor 9 is a smartphone that’s not only built to last, but also to survive dangerous encounters. It is an incredibly resilient smartphone, which can become an invaluable all-in-one tool for construction workers, mountaineers, and even first responders thanks to its integrated thermal camera and endoscope support.

Design and Display

The Armor 9 is a classic example of a rugged smartphone, combining plastic and metal with glass. The resulting product is a behemoth; this is a relatively bulky smartphone as it weighs 320g. On one side of the Ulefone Armor, 9 are a rocker volume, a customizable button, and a proprietary connector for the endoscope while the other houses the power button, the fingerprint sensor, and a nano-SIM/microSD card tray. The front of the Ulefone Armor 9 is all screen. The phone has a 6.3″ LCD screen of extended 1080p resolution and a droplet-shaped notch. There are a bunch of sensors and a tri-color LED notification light above the screen notch and then the earpiece grille.

The big disappointment about the Ulefone 9 is the fact that there’s no 5G. Ulefone has already confirmed that there will be a 5G phone coming later this year, so this is a save. The phone has the usual app bundle located in the aptly named digital toolkit. As for the endoscope, it is manually secured to the side of the smartphone using a screw. The peripheral itself is a long cable that is flexible and waterproof. It is powered with a relatively speedy Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

Battery and Camera

The smartphone is powered by a 6600 mAh battery with Fast charging mechanism. It has a   standby time of Up to 510 h (3G) and a talk time is Up to 42 h (3G). It is available in a single color, Black.

At the back, there are four camera sensors – which includes the FLIR Lepton sensor – and a quad-LED flash located above the Ulefone logo. The front is a standard Corning Gorilla super protected glass panel that comes with a water drop selfie camera. The phone’s edges have been trimmed at 45 degrees to the longer sides to improve resistance to drops.

The Ulefone Armor 9 is one of the best smartphones on the market today with impressive resistance against trauma. It also offers one good FLIR thermal camera which makes it possible to mount an endoscope.

The Armor 9 is not that impressive as a smartphone though – while it has excellent software features, its chip and camera won’t be winning any fans. We can’t have it all, though, not with such a phone at such a price.
