The Umidigi S2 bears such a striking resemblance to the Galaxy S8 that it won’t be wrong to call it a clone of Samsung’s flagship device. The difference lies in the price- the Umidigi S2 is a lot more cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy S8.
The UMIDIGI S2 Lite is a large 6.0-inch phablet with a metal case, dual rear-facing cameras and incredibly narrow display bezels judging by the marketing images.
The design of the UMIDIGI S2 is really striking, as it enjoys a Unibody made of an aluminum alloy with quite elegant curves. Seen from the front, it is really beautiful, with a 90% body – screen ratio, there is no doubt that UMIDIGI has done a good job. It has a dimensions of 15.81 x 7.46 x 0.88 cm and an average weight of 186 grams.
In the back has a multi functional and high security fingerprint scanner, which has the ability to unlock the device in just 0.1 seconds. Another interesting feature is that UMIDIGI joins companies that replace the 3.5mm jack for the headphones with a USB type C port , which we know brings a handful of improvements. It is also Dual SIM, so we can enjoy 2 SIMs in use simultaneously.
The display of the Umidigi S2 is another captivating factor about this phone. It comes with a 5.99-inch screen, thanks to the bezel-less display, and accords a display resolution of 1440×720 pixels, 18:9 aspect ratio, and a pixel density of 368 PPI. The 2.5D curved glass screen on the S2 comes with a protective Corning Gorilla Glass 4 layering. One unique feature about the device’s display is that it offers a 6-inch display with the measurements of a standard 5.5-inch phone, which speaks volumes about its body-to-screen ratio, and how well, Umidigi has managed to ace the bezel-less design.
The S2 has a dual rear-facing camera and a single front-facing camera. The main camera is a 16 MP f/2.0 aperture Omnivision OV 16880 sensor, which works with the 5 MP secondary camera to create depth of field bokeh effect photos. The 5 MP secondary camera cannot be used on its own.
Overall, image sharpness and color reproduction are adequate for a device at this price, but there are some issues. There is a visible blue tint to photos and the exposure is suboptimal. Bright areas of outdoors shots are frequently overexposed and lack any detail. Pictures often come out too dark, with bright areas dominating the photo. Do not expect much from the S2 in low-light conditions either.
The S2 can record videos in up to 4K at 30 FPS. The picture quality is fine, with the exposure quickly adapting to changing lighting conditions. The main camera does a relatively good job at accurately reproducing colors and details too.
The S2 has a 5 MP front-facing camera, the low-resolution of which is typical for a device at this price. The sharpness of photos is fine, but color reproduction is rather dull. Worse still, bright areas tend to overshadow the rest of the image, which can create ugly edges to objects.
We have Android 7.0 Nougat running inside the phone, and I must say that UMiDiGi’s software optimization has taken a step up again over the older models, with this phone feeling even smoother when moving between home screens, going into settings etc.
Processor and Hardware
The S2 has an eight-core Helio P20 Mediatek Chip operating at a maximum frequency of 2.3 GHz, with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. For its part, the Pro version is a bit more powerful, with a Helio P25 Octa – Core that clocks up to 2.5 GHz and with a combination of superior memory that incorporates 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM. Both devices have the ability to expand their memory using a micro SD card up to 256 GB (which is not included in the package.
Without a doubt the most powerful section of this smartphone, as according to the manufacturer, this device is the first Smartphone with a full screen of 6 inches in lasting 2 days of use on a single charge. This is made possible by the fact that it has a 5100 mAh battery which incorporates a very efficient fast charging system.

This is a very beautiful piece of art and affordable mid-ranger in the market. It is indeed a powerful Smartphone (UMIDIGI S2) but still remains quite impressive in everyday use, with a complete package, decent performance but simply adequate camera.
Not only does it resemble the premium Galaxy S8 in looks but has also got enough power under its hood to deliver a performance comparable to Samsung’s flagship device. Be it gaming, watching videos, installing multiple apps, storing music, photos, videos and other data files, taking high-quality videos, recording videos in 4K, running multiple apps in the background, the S2 has all the elements to support your everyday smartphone needs and then some.
