Xiaomi has become one of the most popular smartphone manufacturers in the world in short span of time, offering smartphones and other gadgets with excellent hardware specifications at a very affordable price, usually half the price of similar phones from the more popular smartphone brands. Like other tech companies, Xiaomi releases its new products at tech conferences like the recent event held at Shenzhen in China on May 31, 2018. More than 5000 people attended the conference, where Xiaomi launched several new products. One of the most anticipated products which were released at the conference was the Xiaomi Mi8 Explorer Edition along with the Mi8, and Mi8 SE version.
The Mi8 is Xiaomi’s new flagship smartphone and performance benchmarks like DXOmark and Antulu, show that the phone is one of the best smartphones available in the world, beating the iPhone X, Samsung and other top-selling models. The phone uses the Qualcomm processor Snapdragon 845 with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage. The Mi8 Explorer is the most sophisticated and expensive phone from Xiaomi, and is an upgraded version of the basic Mi8, with several additional features. This is the only version of the Mi8 which will ship with 8 GB of RAM and has 128 GB memory storage, which is higher than other versions.
The Explorer edition of the Mi8 differs from the basic version as it has a fingerprint sensor in the front, incorporated in the display, unlike the basic version where the sensor is located at the back. This allows the Mi8 explorer to have a transparent glass panel, allowing the user to explore the smartphone when it is being used, watch the indicators and other components of the smartphone in operation or switched off. The in display sensor is made by Synaptics, and it has been tested to provide the same speed and accuracy as the conventional fingerprint sensors. The phone is available in four different colors – white, blue, black and gold
Like the basic version, the explorer version of the Mi8 has a front camera for taking selfies with a resolution of 20 megapixels and incorporates artificial intelligence to improve the photos. The rear side of the phone has two cameras of resolution 12 megapixels each, and one of these cameras has a telephoto lens. The phone has a 6.21 inch AMOLED display and incorporates face unlocking technology. It supports GPS technology using the L5 and L1 frequency band, which offers far more accuracy compared to iPhone X and Samsung phones. The sales price of the Mi8 Xiaomi explorer is approximately $580, making it good value for money.
So, specifications and features indicate that the Explorer Edition of the Xiaomi Mi8 is one of the best performing smartphone available worldwide, and the transparent glass panel gives it a unique look.
